Mid-Autumn Festival at AHS

Reflecting the happy atmosphere of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the “Full Moon Festival” took place at all AHS campuses and featured with many interesting activities such as a lantern-making contest, a painting contest, a quiz and so on. This festival helped all students to have a warm, meaningful Mid-Autumn Festival with their teachers and friends.

In the afternoon of September 6th, 2014, the festival began with the lantern-making contest. It included prizes such as the most impressive lantern, the biggest lantern, a prize for the best presentation about the lanterns, the most beautiful traditional lantern, the most beautiful modern lantern, etc. All the lanterns were assessed and selected based on various criteria such as creativity, aesthetics, traditional versus modern, etc.

Besides the traditional manual methods using simple materials like bamboo, glazed paper and zinc, through versatility and skillful hands, students used modern techniques, like spray paint and materials used in daily life, such as empty cans, empty milk cartons, and plastic packaging, to make unique and beautiful lanterns.

Through presentations in English, students created meaningful messages about love for country, family and friends. In particular, all teachers and students of the Asian International School had a warm and meaningful Mid-Autumn Festival. All the beautiful lanterns made by our students will be sent to children in difficult circumstances. This action will raise the humanitarian spirit of our community.

“I’ve been making a lantern with my friends, and our lantern is about environmental protection. Each member was assigned tasks in advance. We made the lantern together, so I can feel the warmth of the Mid-Autumn Festival. I’m very happy that, while learning in a modern environment, we still have a chance to participate in traditional activities”.
