SUMMER CAMP 2023

Theme “Vietnamese Folklore”

I. OBJECTIVES:

- Creating a healthy playground for students, assisting students in learning more about the nation's history, and discovering old Vietnamese tales and folklore.

- Nurturing students a love of the motherland and the Vietnamese people.

- Educating students on filial piety, gratitude to grandparents and parents.

- Inspiring students to overcome obstacles in learning.

- Nurturing students the virtue of honesty and knowing how to keep promises.

- Providing students with a meaningful summer camp, where they can relax and have the opportunity to participate in collective activities that bond friendships and teacher-student relationships.

II. PARTICIPANTS, LOCATION, TIME:

1. Participants:

- Students from grade 1 to grade 5 participating in the 2023 summer course.

2. Time - Location:

- On July 25, 2023, at Cong Hoa campus: For students from Cong Hoa and Cao Thang campuses.

- On July 27, 2023, at Nguyen Van Huong campus: For students from Nguyen Van Huong, Van Thanh and Tran Nhat Duat campuses.

III. PROGRAM CONTENT:

1. Morning:

➢ 7:45: Students gather in the schoolyard.

➢ 8:00 – 8:30: Opening ceremony

➢ Settling students, introducing the program.

➢ Assigning tents and chanting the tents' name and slogan.

➢ Performing the opening ceremony of the camp.

➢ The MC introduces the young MCs (6 students): Students give a brief presentation about the games of the Camp and their associated tales in English and Vietnamese.

➢ Students gather in 3 main camping areas:

+ Camp 1: Resilience Camp

+ Camp 2: Filial Piety Camp

+ Camp 3: Integrity Camp

➢ 8:30 – 8:40: Camp activities

➢ Instructing students on how to set up a tent and explaining the meaning of the camp’s name.

➢ Helping students to practice singing some activity songs.

➢ Students discuss and assign roles (team captain, deputy logistics, sanitation deputy...).

➢ Disseminating the rules of the 7 games in the morning.

➢ 8:45 -> 10:50: Joining the game "Exploring Vietnamese folklore"

Students participate in games. Each time a game is completed, students will receive one flag or sticker.

- Game 1 “Carrying firewood for sale” – Based on the biography of Trang Nguyen (first doctoral candidate) Mac Dinh Chi

=> Rules: Two classes line up in 2 rows. Each turn: 1 student per class.

Two students begin at the starting line with firewood on their shoulders and a book on their hand. They have to read and memorize the folk verse in the book while going over the obstacles to reach the finish line, then re-read the folk verse for the teacher to gain items such as papers and pens (grade 1 students only need to carry firewood and hold the book, no reading required). The class with the most objects collected in the allocated time wins. The folk verse will be longer in grades 4-5 than in grades 2-3.

- Game 2 “Writing on sand”– Based on anecdotes about Trang Nguyen (first doctoral candidate) Luu Mien - under King Tran Thai Tong

=> Rules: Two classes lining up in 2 rows compete against each other. Each turn: 2 students per class.

The first student receives the topic from the teacher, then uses their finger to write on the back of the second student, the second student must concentrate and guess the picture or word, then write it on the sand.

For each correct turn, students will be rewarded with 1 sticker.

- Game 3 “Vietnamese Court examination” – Simulate the Vietnamese Court examination with tents, cots, and roll of honor.

=> The booth is decorated with models that simulate a traditional Vietnamese Court examination. In this booth, there will be a bookshelf for students to read during the summer camp. Students read books and participate in the challenge given by the Judges for a chance to receive more stickers. If students answer many questions correctly, they will be honored on the roll of honor.

- Game 4 “Filial Flower” – Based on “The White Daisy” tale

=> Rules: Two classes lining up in 2 rows compete against each other. Each turn: 1 student per class.

Students overcome obstacles to bring the petals to attach to the calyx. The class that completes the flower first will be rewarded with more stickers.

- Game 5 “Fetching water from Fairy Spring” - Based on the fairy tale “The Tich Chu boy”

=> Rules: Two classes line up in 2 rows. Each turn: 1 student per class.

Two students begin at the starting line, collect water from Fairy Spring, overcome obstacles, and pour water into the bucket. The class that gets more water in the allotted time wins and gets more stickers.

- Game 6 “Joining – Detaching” - Based on the fairy tale “The Bamboo with a Hundred Nodes”

=> Rules: Two classes are divided into 2 teams to compete against each other. Each turn: 4 students per class.

Each turn: one representative student reads the mantra “Joining” before the team members arrange the bamboo nodes into a hundred-node bamboo, carry the bamboo to the finish line, recite the mantra “Detaching” and break up the bamboo nodes. The team that completes the turn the fastest will receive stickers.

- Game 7 “Journeying to find the Jade Emperor”

=> Rules: Students take on the role of a poor farmer who rides a turtle across the East Sea in search of the Jade Emperor. Students will answer the Jade Emperor's riddles or solve puzzles when they meet him. Students will be rewarded with a sticker if they answer correctly.

➢ 10:55: gathering at the tents.

➢ 11:00: Lunch and afternoon activities (no nap).

 Note: For students who do not eat at school, Teachers still return the students to their parents to eat lunch as usual (except for Cao Thang, Tran Nhat Duat, Van Thanh campuses: The class teachers inform parents that students eat at school).

2. Afternoon:

➢ 13:00: Gathering at the schoolyard.

➢ Starting with the warm-up game.

➢ Informing the afternoon program.

➢ 13:15 – 14:00: Music Exchange “IPS LOVE FOLK MUSIC”

➢ Students can register 5 to 6 performances per day of summer camp (plus 1 performance by IPS teachers/staff).

➢ Panel of Judges: 2 Campus Managers, 2 Vietnamese Program Managers, Admission Manager, Mr. Cuong – Music teacher

➢ 14:00 - 14:30: Students gather at their tents and have a snack.

➢ 14:30 – 15:00: Game: Making collage arts while blindfolded with the theme ‘SUMMER FLORAL FOLIAGE’

➢ Students & teachers prepare colored paper/newspaper, auxiliary materials (leaves, dried flowers, glitter, beans, tree bark, pigments, etc.), glue, A0 cover, and at least 3 cloth blindfolds for each class.

➢ MC introduces game rules.

➢ Students and teachers discuss and assign tasks.

➢ Students and teachers participate in the game (the game lasts 5 minutes).

➢ Voting and announcing the winner.

➢ 15:00 – 15:15 School students do activities while gathering in circle.

➢ Performing the camp ending ceremony, announcing the rewards to the students of the camp with the most flags/stickers.
