AHS students bustle with the Mid-Autumn Festival

Lantern Festival is held annually at The Asian International School for AHS students during the Mid-Autumn Festival to bring Vietnamese good traditional values closer to its students. Many exciting activities including lantern making contest with prizes like the most beautiful traditional lantern, the most beautiful modern lantern, presentations about the noble meaning of lanterns, etc. This helped all students have a warm, meaningful Mid-Autumn Festival with their teachers and friends.

In the early morning of September 14th 2013, with the convivial atmosphere of the Mid-Autumn Festival, all students were at all the AHS campuses with traditional materials such as bamboo, zinc, glazed paper and colorful glitter strings. All students at The Asian International School excitedly prepared for the Lantern Festival 2013. They themselves made beautiful lanterns and presented about the noble meaning of their lanterns.

Students bustled in preparation for the contest

The preparation for the contest was very exciting, and all students together shared tasks. The male students were responsible for clipping bamboo, and cutting zinc while female students were in charge of designing models, crayoning and decorating the lantern. After more than two hours, many beautiful, unique and creative lanterns of each class were made. Both teachers' and students' foreheads were dripping with sweat. Their legs and hands were covered with paints. However, glee appeared on their faces with the lantern made by their own creativity.

The glee of students in the contest

Besides traditional lanterns such as star lanterns, carp lanterns, etc., the students also created many modern and funny designs which showed their love for family and school with house-shaped lanterns representing The Asian International School, balloon lanterns representing the students' dreams and funny cartoon characters, etc..

Students' eye-catching lanterns

The Lantern Festival 2013 was more meaningful and complete with presentations of students about the idea and significance of products made by their own creativity. It was very surprising that all ideas showed students' love for family, school and friends. Some typical products were the 12-house lantern made by grade 6 representing all 12 campuses of The Group of Asian International School and the balloon lantern representing the significance that the school would help students' dreams fly higher in the future. At the end of the presentation, students hoped and wished all the best to the school, teachers and family as well as expressed deep gratitude to school for organizing a useful and meaningful playground for them in the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Feelings of students:

Nguyen Thuy Yen Nhi, a student of class 7A2

"This year's Lantern Festival is very funny. Through this event, I feel how fun and significant it is when making a traditional lantern. I think studentsin city often buy electronic lanterns available in the market, but students at The Asian International School know how to make a lantern by themselves. I feel happier when our products are exhibitedon campus."

Nguyen Hoang Thuy Giang, a student of class 7A2

"The Lantern Festival gives me and my classmates a chance to work together and understand each other better. Our teachers also help us to design and clip bamboo to make a lantern. I see the efforts of my class. This year's festival is very funny and meaningful for me."

Nguyen Le Tuyet Nhi, a student of class 10A2

"Mid-Autumn Festival begins early at The Asian International School. That is the time when we and our teachers design and prepare materials for making a beautiful lantern. Besides that, a person in my class is responsible for presenting in English, and another one is charge of presenting in Vietnamese. That is the reason why we know not only how to make a lantern but also understand the significance of product made by our own creation."

Nguyen To Tran, a student of class 6A3

"Today, I'm very happy. This is the first time I make a lantern myself. Although our lantern is not very beautiful, it demonstrates the noble meaning of Mid-Autumn Festival better than battery-powered lanterns. In the next years, I and my classmates will make more beautiful lanterns and send them to our teachers as gifts we would like to present to them in Trung Thu season."

Liem Khanh Phong, a student of class 6/36

"Thanks to the Lantern Festival, I can really enjoy Trung thu season. We can together work and play happily. Every lantern is very beautiful, unique and meaningful. I hope that the school will organize the Lantern Festival every year for students to join and make lantern."
