Nguyen Thi Minh Chau – Third prize winner in the City-Ranking Math Contest for Excellent Students
The City-Ranking Contest for Excellent Students in the school year 2012 - 2013 is an annual contest held by the Ministry of Education and Training countrywide, aiming to assess teaching and learning quality of secondary schools as well as to select outstanding students to participate in the nation-ranking contest.
Bright eyes and a radiant smile is our first impression of the little student Nguyen Thi Minh Chau of class 9/7 - third prize winner in the City-Ranking Math Contest for Excellent Students in the school year 2012 - 2013. Minh Chau is always friendly and sociable with her schoolmates. According to her classmates, she is a dynamic, confident, smart person and is adored by teachers and friends at The Asian International School.

As a passionate math student, Minh Chau considers math as a simple and easy-to-learn subject. She said: “People think math is hard, but I do not think so. Math is a very interesting intellectual subject. I do not have to memorize so much knowledge as in theoretical subjects. I just need to master the formulas that teacher instructed in class, and then apply to my exercises. I also do several different types of exercises to remember the knowledge more effectively. I feel excited when facing a tough exercise and much happier when solving it correctly.”

Minh Chau summed up her experience in learning math by saying: “To learn math well, you need to master the basic knowledge of math. When facing a difficult and unfamiliar exercise, stay calm to analyze and convert it to the basic form. If you do not understand the lesson, ask the teacher for clarification. So you can understand and memorize it better. Importantly, at home, you should review the lesson and do tough exercises in many different ways to find out the most effective one.”

Having studied at The Asian International School since grade 5, Minh Chau has been an excellent student for 5 consecutive years. Teachers and friends all love her. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang - her class teacher said: “Minh Chau is an intelligent, outstanding student, acquiring the knowledge very quickly. Furthermore, Chau is very diligent in searching for reference books and materials. In addition to math and natural science subjects, Chau is also very good at English. I'm very proud of her because she made the top 100 contestants in the 10th Tran Dai Nghia contest. With her abilities, I think she could attain higher achievements.”

Minh Chau has a special passion for basketball. In the large schoolyard, she and her friends play basketball every day. She said: “Whenever I get the ball in the basket, I feel joyful and happy. All tiredness is relieved.”

Minh Chau wishes to travel around the world to learn and explore unique cultures. She said: “I want to explore the cultures of every country and find out interesting things about the world. In the future, I want to become a good engineer to design large, modern projects and buildings.”

To achieve that beautiful dream, Minh Chau has to attempt and strive harder in her studies.
