Organizing outdoor trips for students after school hours is a helpful, practical and important activity which The Asian International School continues to bring to its students. It hopes that the students will experience new things and expand their vision of the vibrant and lively world around them after the trips. From July 24, 2012 to July 28, 2012, almost 600 secondary and high school students of The Asian International School's summer program had an interesting outdoor trip to Fresh vegetable garden for the community, located in 13 Nguyen Van Linh, Bình Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City.

Under instructions of their teachers and volunteers, the students learnt about many kinds of fresh vegetables at Fresh vegetable garden for the community, the meaning of the garden, as well as growing procedures.

At the garden, everybody was interested in seeing fresh green vegetable plots with many kinds of vegetables such as courgette, fiber melon, pumpkin, spinach, and so on. There was much laughter and comment, and the trip became more and more exciting.

The students took part in weeding, sowing seeds, and taking care of vegetables enthusiastically. When they worked together in the garden and talked to the volunteers joyfully, the students became ‘’real farmers’’. Despite the hot weather, the students enjoyed the stimulating trip.

With the guideline Study as you play, play as you study, the trip was fun while also providing useful knowledge about living skills such as group - work, having sense of responsibility, and so on.

Finishing the trip, the students came back to school, all of them were so happy and had a deep impression of the trip. This year summer was so meaningful and practical for them. The trip gave them first – hand experience of the hard work involved in farming and the values of agricultural work, and then they will realize how to love what they have, that is the greatest happiness that their families and teachers give them.
