To Moc Nguyen – to win the 3rd Prize in the Tennis tournament of Phu Dong Health Festival 2010-2012

The Tennis tournament of Phudong Health Festival of Hochiminh City 2010 -2012, organized by Hochiminh City Tennis Federation from March 7th, 2012 to March 13th, 2012 at Phu Tho Tennis Club, gathered 130 students of primary, secondary and high schools from over 16 districts. The athletes have taken part in the tournament’s competitions of 11 medal sets, including: Grade 1 girls’ singles, Grade 1 boys’ singles, Grade 6-7 girls’ singles, Grade 8-9 girls’ singles, High school girls’ singles, High school boys’ singles, Grade 6-7 boys’ doubles, Grade 8-9 boys’ doubles and High school boys’ doubles.

This is a useful playground which encourages the athletes to exchange, experience and improve their physical constitution and professional knowledge so as to develop themselves totally. Moreover, this is also an opportunity to find new talents in sports that would be trained and fostered to build up excellent core athlete resource for the city and the whole country.

A plump, lovely and intelligent face leaves a good first impression on other people when they come in contact with To Moc Nguyen, the little boy from class 4/4 of the Asian International School. He is the excellent candidates who win the 3rd Prize in the Tennis tournament of Phudong Health Festival 2010-2012. Nguyen’s achievement is not only the happiness of his own but also the pride and honor of his family and the Asian International School.

Nguyen has been learning and practicing tennis since he was a young child. At that time, everyone in his family thought that he was just playing tennis to exercise and strengthen his heath. Then, as he continued playing and became fond of the tennis racquet, his talent was aroused. Recognizing Nguyen’s passion and talent, his father started spending more time in training his son. He always encouraged Nguyen’s spirit in order that he would be more motivated to play tennis better.
Thanks to his father’s encouragement, his teacher’s training and his own passion, To Moc Nguyen learned very quickly and soon became an excellent young tennis player of the Asian International School. Recently, he has proved this in the Tennis tournament of Phu Dong Health Festival 2010-2012. He has shown his talent and determination through the rounds, excellently defeated the opponent students coming from other primary schools in the city to bring the pride to his school with the 3rd Prize in Tennis tournament.

Sharing about his training process, Nguyen said: "I love playing tennis. My dad has been teaching me since I was 5 years old. My dad is very good at tennis and I admire him so much. That's why I have been trying so hard to practice. At present, I'm a member of the No Trang Long Tennis club in Binh Thanh district. I’m learning and practicing there every weekend”.
Being asked about his achievements, Nguyen answered: "For the recent achievement, I had to try very hard. Before the tournament, I had practiced laboriously, hoping to get the best results. Although this is just the 3rd Prize, I still feel very happy because the competitions have helped me learn, exchange and gain experience and motivation". 
Nguyen is excellent not only in tennis but also in other sports such as table tennis, basketball, shuttlecock kicking, soccer and swimming. Nguyen is now an elite member of the Table Tennis club of the Asian International School.

Besides participating and getting good achievements in sports activities, Nguyen also tries hard and does well in studying. He has been an excellent student of the Asian International School for the past three years. He particularly loves English and Math. “I love studying English and Math. I always do homework, review the lesson and prepare for the new classes. At school, I often ask my teachers to explain what I don’t understand. Also, my classmates and I usually have group work in class. Those help me remember the lesson easier and quicker”, Nguyen said.

Talking about his learning environment, Nguyen shared: “I enjoy being a student of the Asian International School. My school is big and beautiful. At school, I’m learning and playing various and interesting kinds of sports. My teachers are very nice. They always help me in studying and in other activities. My school is wonderful. I love it very much”.
Nguyen’s dream is also lovely: “I’m dreaming of being a police officer or studying abroad like other elder schoolmates in the future. If I have an opportunity to study abroad, I will choose Singapore to come to study and return to Vietnam to work so that I can be near my parents”.
It can be believed that together with Nguyen’s passion and talent, the modern teaching and learning environment of the Asian International School will provide him the best conditions to demonstrate his ability, give wings to the little boy’s dream and make it come true.
